“Cowboy Is Not Home” is the result of Wu Yen-Cheng’s residency at the Santa Fe Art Institute in the United States. Extending his decade-long “Here is where we meet” project across Taiwan, Wu explores the interdependent relationship between humans and nature through movement and displacement. Drawing from anthropology, ecology, and aesthetics, he reflects on the human condition, where trees, rocks, animals, clouds, and stars emit their own light — forming elements of a vast, mythic universe.

This book compiles three months of residency experiences, blending spontaneous daily sketches, short English poems, diary entries, sculptures, paintings, and photography, capturing the immersive creative process of life in the American Southwest.
