This book is dedicated to the memory of my father-in-law,
Mr. Chiu Kao-Ping.
In 2025, I took part in his funeral ceremony in Manzhou.
That experience prompted me to reconsider the meanings of “ritual,” “disappearance,” and “what remains”—and their profound relationship with life itself.
