樂生療養院是台灣唯一一家公立麻風療養院，今年將因捷運工程，完全轉型為社區醫院，結束麻風專屬療養院的時代。從1930年建院至今，一直肩負著台灣麻風防治的重任，由於是台灣唯一的公立麻風收容機構及養護機構，樂生的一頁小史代表台灣麻風防治史的縮影。
●《悲歡樂生》由中國時報前資深記者張平宜負責採訪撰稿，中國時報資深攝影記者林國彰的紀實攝影，內有珍貴的老照片，全書採中英文並呈，共328頁，是全台第一本關於麻風病人生活紀錄的報導文學。
●精裝限量發行1500本，全數用作慈善義賣。義賣所得將一半捐作台灣麻風老人急難救助金，一半作為大陸偏遠地區麻風病人子女希望工程。
Losheng Sanatorium is the only public sanatorium for leprosy patients in Taiwan. Due to the construction of Taipei mass rapid transportation, the authorities plan to transform Losheng to a community hospital, thus putting an end to its dedicated hospitalization and care for leprosy patients. Losheng was established in 1930. Since then, it has shouldered significant responsibility in the prevention and cure of leprosy. Pages of lives in Losheng can well reflect the entire history of leprosy prevention in Taiwan.
“Outside the World” is a piece of reporting literature, first of its kind in Taiwan, recording the lives of leprosy patients in Losheng Sanatorium. The interviews and articles were done by Chang Ping-I, former senior journalist of China Times; and the pictures were taken by Lin Kuo-chang, senior photographer of China Times. The book has 328 pages and contains some treasurable images from the old days. The texts are both in Chinese and English.
1500 copies of hard-copy version are published and put on sale, the revenue of which will completely be used for charity. Half of it goes to the emergency aids for the elders with leprosy in Taiwan, and the other half to the “engineering of hope” for children of leprosy patients in remote China.
