In 2014, the photography project “QIJIAN” began at an ordinary construction site. Human bodies climbing across massive scaffolding, suspended in midair with seemingly no protection, provoked an instinctive sense of fear and uncertainty. This initial encounter with the human body in a state of instability became the recurring point of departure for QIJIAN.

“QIJIAN” refers not only to a period of construction, but also to a period of reflection.
Through the act of looking, the project seeks to dismantle and reconfigure prevailing views of construction sites and laborers, offering both the viewer and the photographer a space that can be continuously taken apart and rebuilt.
How do we think about, and how do we approach, what we have yet to truly understand?
