In my daily life, every afternoon I have to open the refrigerator, take out some frozen ingredients, wait them to thaw, and then do the cooking. At the time I noticed that the process of freezing and thawing is similar to photography. They both deal with the same problem, trying to make some kind of qualitative change of time. While freezing foods, they are taken out from the time flow, like the photos being taken. As them thawing, the time is released. In the slow thawing processes the time concepts are messed. These time processes are taken into photos that show time itself. The “Thawing Time” means not only the time frozen objects need to get thawed but also the cumulative time the films exposed. In addition, it raises discussions of the time ontology: the photos of thawing do not keep the section of some time nor the basis of time is not through the distinction of now and past, it is time flow, the way people fight against the time. Expect the presenting of time itself, the piece also conveys the uncertainty of the rapid change of life due to the arriving of my new family member.
