The genesis of this photobook dates back to 2014. One early morning in my hometown of Hsinchu, I looked down and beheld a vast expanse of rice fields swaying in the breeze. It was as if I was appreciating a painting. And yet, I seemed to have caught sight of another posture with which it exists in the world.
This series is inspired by the origin of the word “photography”, that is “painting with light.” I saw photosensitive materials as the canvas, light as the paint brush. Photography was the medium I employed to complete my “light painting”.
Conceptually, it draws from the Buddhist notion of “all things are devoid of intrinsic existence,” meaning that everything lacks a true and substantial state of existence.
