This book documents the life journey of the author’s mother, a Vietnamese woman who moved to Taiwan in 1997 for marriage, seen through the eyes of her son, Tsai Ding-Bang. From a young age, Tsai Ding-Bang’s family was caught between Vietnam and Taiwan. His mother’s marriage, arranged through relatives, made her a typical “Vietnamese bride” figure in Taiwanese society, and she faced considerable discrimination and life pressures in the early stages of her marriage. Following the divorce, the mother was separated from her children for many years. It was only after his father’s death, when Tsai Ding-Bang was 12, that he was sent back to live with his mother. However, his return did not lead to a stable family life; instead, it initiated a struggle for identity and belonging.
